Happy Wednesday, fellow reading addicts!

So, despite the bitterly cold temperatures last week, we’re back in the 70s for a few days, a temperature dip and a threat of snow (but almost all winter it’s been just a threat or a dusting, nothing like 2019, 2020, or 2021 winters). I haven’t checked to see if the tulips are pushing up yet, but it won’t be long before all the flowers are blooming and I need to decide if I’m going to do a garden (Hint: I probably am not due to a lot of travel in June and August.)

I’ve been tackling some small personal projects around the house and on my longer to do list for my business and my writing. I don’t know about the rest of you, but some days I seriously underestimate how long certain tasks will take, thinking I can get them done in a fraction of time. You know, kind of like the recipes that say you can prep the meal in 10 minutes, but it involves dicing up all sorts of vegetables and you’re not a chef, so it takes 45 minutes instead of 10. That’s how some of my projects are going.

I don’t know how many of you play roleplaying games, but last month I started an online session with a mix of real-life friends and online friends. There are eight players, half of them know each other in their respective groups, so it is really entertaining when they work together on accident to take a scenario the wrong direction. This will be the second session on Saturday and I look forward to it. If you play roleplaying games, what are some of your favorites to play?

We have an interesting variety of books to share with you this week. Check them out below!

Enjoy and happy reading!

•“Most authors can’t make an animal character believable. This one does. Craig Martelle has a great imagination and can put it down on paper for you to enjoy also, just like the great writers of the golden age. His writing is very reminiscent of their work.” Amazon five-star reviewer
•“…you will see the flavor of Sci-fi, Fantasy, and with enough sarcasm and humor to keep you highly entertained!”
•“A character driven book, but with a stable plot as well.”
•“I enjoyed reading it very much. There is a lot of humor as well as action. I look forward to the next book in the series.”

Thin Moon and Cold Mist

New York Times bestselling author and historian Kathleen O’Neal Gear turns her considerable skills towards a tale of the American Civil War told through the eyes of a female spy.

In May 1864, Robin Walkingstick Heatherton, a beautiful young woman of half-Cherokee descent, has again disguised herself as a “Negro” soldier and infiltrated the Union Army in order to spy for the Confederacy.

Union Army Major Thomas Corley, obsessed with Robin ever since her espionage activities caused the death of his brother, has offered $1000 in gold for information leading to her capture; he also has vowed to track her down and kill her himself. When her Confederate soldier husband is executed by firing squad at Corley’s command, Robin flees Virginia with their five-year-old son, Jeremy, for the West.

En route, she wins a mining claim in the Colorado Territory, only to find out that it has already been settled by the bushy-bearded Garrison Parker, a Union Army hero. Eventually, the two fall in love, but Garrison must make a fateful decision: whether to reveal Robin’s possible involvement in one of the most shocking events in American history…
