I’m even plotting things like “DAYS OFF” and “VACATION”. You know, things I should have been doing, but I haven’t because I’m self-employed and have had a lot of expensive things going on. But I was reminded over the past two months how important self-care is and that if you don’t practice it, your body will force it on you – kind of like mine did – so now I’m trying to be proactive about it.
I’m even trying to plan some fun game nights on the weekends with my boyfriend and some close friends. We’ll all be doing it via Discord, but it’s one more thing for self care.
Besides reading, what are some things you do to take care of yourself? I could use some other ideas.

I’m being hunted. And I don’t remember why.
700 years ago, a sorceress decided to subjugate the entire human race. You might recall the first step of her plan – they called it the Black Death.
Since then, anyone with magical talent is brought to the Acadamh, an ancient magical university, to be trained … and people with dangerous magical specialties tend to disappear there. And my specialty? Well, I’ve never been able to use my magic as far as I can remember, but they tell me that it is rot, and death. So I’ve been hidden, passed from safe house to safe house.
But the Hunters are on my trail now. Specifically, the very worst one who could have found out about me: Daiman Bradach, legendary druid – ruthless, powerful, and absolutely devoted to the Acadamh.
I’m going to have to get good with my magic. More than good. I’m going to have to become just as much of a legend as he is – fast.
Or I’m as good as dead.
Can one person (and his newborn clone) convince an alien not to end the world?
How far will a Lit Professor go playing a game of alien chess in pursuit of a lost Shakespearean play?
Does the planet Mars really need baby seals?
Across 30 tales of Science Fiction spanning more than 20 years, former psychology professor Lawrence M. Schoen explores ideas and metaphors of alien encounters, artificial intelligence, and the intricacies of the human mind, blending wit, charm, and old-fashioned story telling (and even the occasional atrocious pun).
If science fiction is the mirror we use to look at ourselves, if aliens and A.I.s are the allegories that let us challenge who we are, then this collection by a multiple Hugo, Nebula, and Astounding Award nominee will open your eyes to the wonder that is the human race even as it amuses and entertains.
Running the gauntlet from extinct languages to projecting human consciousness into the bodies of polar bears, from bridging alien communication through art and literature to flim-flamming the creators of time machines, from the joke that created the universe to a pen that writes new worlds, Schoen spins tales that amaze and delight even as they tell us who we really are at the end of the day.
A hideous idol. An ancient slumbering evil. A murderous cult.
1878—Doctor Archibald Shaw arrives in India with lofty intentions. He wants to make a difference in the world. As a young doctor and new officer in Her Majesty’s British army, he wants nothing more than to help the local people while distinguishing himself in Queen Victoria’s foreign service.
In short order, though, Shaw finds his basic concept of the world turned upside down. It begins with an ugly idol, and an evil from the dawn of time waiting to return to this world. This elder god still sleeps…but fitfully, and a cult long thought destroyed has come back to awaken it. They will kill anyone who gets in their way.
Everything Shaw once believed true dissolves around him, and he grasps at straws to keep his own sanity—including the desperate friendship of one young orphan boy. Will it be enough to keep him alive?
Shaw begins to realize that the fate of all humanity rests in his hands.
