Happy Wednesday, fellow reading addicts!
My week started off with the sound of the marching band at the high school 3 blocks from my house starting classes before school starts August 16. It was bittersweet to hear the drum beating out their cadences and the notes as out-of-tune instruments started being tuned and students remembered how to play those instruments. Many years ago (I’ll just say more than 20), I remember those two weeks before classes started, practicing in the early morning before it got too hot, then again in the evening. I had grown up in Texas and I can promise you, band practice was grueling. This was a good week for practices to start up here where I’m at now. Next week is another hot week, but this week was nice.

But it served as a happy reminder that I’m no longer in high school and those marching band days, while fun, are far behind me!

What’s not behind me is my love for reading. I picked that up in middle school and it stayed with me. I remember reading some Stephen King books and Michael Crichton books in middle school. In all honesty, I probably shouldn’t have been reading that, but I’ve not turned out the worst from it. Were there any books you read that you think you shouldn’t have at that age?

This week, we have a bunch of great books, mostly boxed sets, for your reading pleasure. Check them out!

Enjoy and happy reading!

Birth of Heavy Metal Complete Boxed Set

Here’s your chance to get the complete series boxed set in one place!

You thought you understood the Zoo? I’m here to tell you it’s so much more than anyone ever thought!

HE WAS NOT PREPARED.

Born from the fertile imagination of bestselling author Michael Anderle

Fountain of Youth, or Valley of Death?

While eating his supper of microwave popcorn, PhD student-genius Salinger Jacobs is grabbed from his apartment in California, stuck on a C-130 military plane and sent to the Sahara Desert to witness the reality of the ZOO for himself.

With the life expectancy of untrained scientists working inside the ZOO measured in hours, he has a lot to learn.

Fast.

First order of business?

How do you shoot a gun, and just HOW MUCH is that plant worth?

The government needs the best of the best military and scientific minds working out how to pull the secrets from the ZOO, while keeping the deadly fauna and flora in check.

There is one major problem, Salinger doesn’t even have a PhD.

If he can stay alive long enough, he might be able to afford something besides packaged microwave popcorn to eat.

THAT IS A BIG IF.

This Boxed Set includes all eight books in the BIRTH OF HEAVY METAL Series

  1. He Was Not Prepared
  2. She is His Witness
  3. Backstabbing Little Assets
  4. Blood of My Enemies
  5. Get Out of Our Way
  6. It All Falls Down
  7. Justice Come Due
  8. All’s Fair in War

The Dragon Corps Books 1-4

As commander of one of the most decorated Dragon teams in history, Talon Rift has taken down the worst humanity has to offer—slave traders, terrorists, arms traffickers, and more.

But one of his quarries has always eluded him: the Warlord of Ymir, the man who marched an army of mercenaries onto a planet decades ago and has held it ever since. Taking the Warlord down with a team of 16 is a suicidal idea…

But Dragons aren’t known for their good sense of self-preservation. They’re known for doing whatever it takes.

Soup of the Moment

★ Return to the award-winning world of Barsk: The Elephants’ Graveyard and The Moons of Barsk in this prequel that reveals the true story behind the classic bedtime story of Pholo, the Fant who could fly! ★

In the distant future, the galaxy is filled with the descendants of raised mammals created by the long-forgotten human race. Nearly all of these anthropomorphic peoples are furred, except for the Fant — furless beings with enormous ears and bizarre prehensile trunks — who because of their differences were rounded up centuries ago and relocated to Barsk, a wet world no one else wanted.

But the Fant have adapted and prospered in their isolation, having grown accustomed to the near constant rainfall and making the island rainforests of Barsk their home.

On one of these islands lives Pholo, a young scientist with a radical theory: what if you could harness the power of the storms and use it fly‽

To test her theory she has built a prototype, a transduction engine that appears to work, albeit with a sizable radioactive side effect.

Pholo believes she’s solved the problems of flying suit but her lovers — a poet named Bindle and a physician named Gavi — are worried about radiation.

Her great great grandmother is concerned she’s making a mistake, and is offering her the family soup business if Pholo will just put all this science foolishness aside.

And her therapist fears that Pholo’s obsession with flight is blinding her to the importance of the people in her life who truly love her.

Is Pholo’s theory right? Can she succeed in flying? And if so, at what cost?
