Happy Wednesday, fellow reading addicts!

Can you believe it’s June 1 already? One more month and the year will be halfway through. It seems hard to believe we’ve already made it through five months of the year. It’s just speeding past, unlike the last two years. I need it to slow down so I can get caught up on everything before my trips and everything I’ve got planned for later this year.

We have some really great books for you this week, including one that is a new release. It’s not on sale, but it’s available to read in Kindle Unlimited. All the rest are on sale at 99 cents!

I have a book-related question for the week: What is your book reading habit? Do you curl up in a specific spot to read your books? Or settle with a drink? Or something else?

Enjoy and happy reading!

Veil Rising

Abducted along with thousands of others. Transported to a world of slavery for alien masters. Mind-wiped, so every hellish day in the mines feels like just another job shift.

This has been going on for millennia. And one day, archaeologist Ali Johnson decodes an ancient Sumerian tablet that unveils the truth. Those secrets set her on a trail of clues that lead to the right place at the absolute wrong time.

The plan to keep humanity at heel relies on periodic purges, and the countdown to genocide is ticking. Ali may be the spark that ignites galactic rebellion.

But before she can save mankind, she must remember who she is, what she’s lost, and why one terrible figure continues to haunt her dreams.

Backlash Rising

After narrowly escaping her enemy, Ali reels back from the edge of death.

She finds herself surrounded by a strange subterranean species who hide from the enslavement she just fled. Some think Ali is the long-awaited key to their salvation. Others want her killed.

But Ali doesn’t have time for life-or-death politics. She knows the Annunaki overlords have a planet-killing weapon en route. Her friends, family, along with the entire Bawn race, face annihilation…except for those willing to betray and sabotage for the Annunaki cause.

Ali may only have days to unravel the knot of doom tightening around them all. Still, she can’t escape one mounting fear: What if this threat is only a trial run for the Annunaki? What if the real target is Ali’s home, the birthplace of humanity and all the rebellion that comes with it — Earth?

Alliance Rising

The aliens want her dead. Easier said than done.

Ali, archaeologist and expert at cuneiform translation, knows about the long-departed Anunnaki slavers, not just because of the ancient writings she has found in Mesopotamia, but because she has their blood running through her veins.

Now Ali’s found a terrifying truth:

The Anunnaki are coming back.

The powers afforded by Ali’s dangerous mixed blood make it just conceivable she can stop them… once she hooks up with the Space Templars.

Oh, and they have to fix a little problem: the Anunnaki left behind portals all around the Earth through which they can pour millions of troops in a matter of minutes.

Step one: Close the back doors.

So the race is on:

Can Ali kill the portals before the Anunnaki kill her?

Cold As Hell

(NEW RELEASE, in KU)

In the West, there are worse things to fear than bandits and outlaws.

Demons. Monsters. Witches. James Crowley’s sacred duty as a Black Badge is to hunt them down and send them packing, banish them from the mortal realm for good.

He didn’t choose this life. No. He didn’t choose life at all.

Shot dead in a gunfight many years ago, now he’s stuck in purgatory, serving the whims of the White Throne to avoid falling to Hell. Not quite undead, though not alive either, the best he can hope for is to work off his penance and fade away.

This time, the White Throne has sent him to investigate a strange bank robbery in Lonely Hill. An outlaw with the ability to conjure ice has frozen and shattered open the bank vault and is now on a spree, robbing the region for all it’s worth.

In his quest to track down the ice-wielder and suss out which demon is behind granting a mortal such power, Crowley finds himself face-to-face with hellish beasts, shapeshifters, and, worse … temptation. But the truth behind the attacks is worse than he ever imagined …

The Witcher meets The Dresden Files in this weird Western series by the Audible number one bestselling duo behind Dead Acre.

Cease Fire

Stranded in uncharted space, Karma is finding it harder to keep information from the crew.

But what she knows will affect their chances of survival.

At least with the crew knowing about the device it means that she can work with them to get it back online and find a way home.

That would be the plan, but for a pesky distress call.

A distress call they have to answer.

The problem with responding to distress signals in unknown space, with untold threats all around, is that you also run the risk of needing to send out your own distress call.

Which presupposes that there are friendly folks somewhere around. And that you’re not going to attract the attention of any lurking hostiles.

Not only that, but their side quest could very well result in losing crew members.

And we’re not just talking about red shirts.

Darkness Awakening

Homicide might be Vanessa Flynn’s business, but magic had never been in the job description.

Until now…

When a deadly car accident turns Detective Flynn’s life upside down, she finds herself working the biggest case of her life.

Saving her son.

Can she find out who is behind a series of ritual killings before it’s too late?

Mikey’s life depends on it…and so much more.

Doctor Alien

Pure science fiction fun mixed with sense-of-wonder!

Not terribly far in the future, a highly sophisticated alien species, the Tsf, have set up trading posts on Earth. Naturally, humans want to please them in hopes that the Tsf will share their ultra-advanced technology. And an opportunity arises to do just that.

The Tsf have rescued three aliens of different, unfamiliar species on three damaged spaceships. But something psychological appears to be seriously wrong with all three.

When their specialists fail to help these space-shipwrecked beings, the Tsf turn to humans for help.

Dr. Alanso J. Morganson, well-respected psychiatrist, is drafted to propose a treatment plan. He knows the task is impossible but humanity is counting on him. To avoid drowning, “Dr. Alien” had best grab a buoy or grow tall enough to find solid land under his feet.

Each Dr. Alien tale builds on the last, culminating with a unique vista on a truly cosmic scale, as well as possibilities for astonishing developments to come.

“Fans of old school SFF will enjoy these clever and entertaining adventures.”—Publishers Weekly

Gridiron Girl

Fun friendships, high school romance, and intense competition are at the heart of book one in Tamara Girardi’s swoon-worthy, young-adult contemporary series.

Julia Medina, dubbed Jules by her closest friends, wants to be the new, starting quarterback of Iron Valley High School’s football team, and no one is going to stand in her way. That is—until her boyfriend, Owen Malone, steps up to the challenge. Wanting to maintain her relationship with her boyfriend, Jules is torn. But while Owen is in her heart, football is in her blood.

Once the idea takes root to quit her championship volleyball team and join the leagues of Iron Valley’s toughest teenage boys, there’s no stopping Jules from pursuing her dream. In her mind, expectations that the position will go to a male player have gone on long enough, and, even as her decision creates controversy among the booster parents, school coaches, family members, and team members themselves, Jules holds strong in her beliefs.

Which is good—because when parents hear that Jules plans to participate in overnight pre-season camp with a staff of male coaches and eighty high school boys, her tryout is threatened more than ever before. Yet, nobody can deny Jules’ skills. As the youngest sister of three former high school quarterbacks, Jules knows the game. She knows what it takes to outsmart opponents, and she’s not about to let anyone count her out for being a girl.

But as the competition intensifies, Jules must choose what she wants more—to embrace girl power and lead her team on the field, or be a girlfriend on the sidelines.

Gridiron Girl will inspire you to follow your vision, instead of those dictated by others. Perfect for fans of Better than Perfect by Simone Elkeles and On the Fence by Kasie West.
